Sweden, Uppsala
Northern Europe 2019, day 8: Uppsala
On Sunday we took the train to Uppsala, which is about 30 minutes (by train) north of Stockholm. It’s a city that’s been described as the Oxford of Sweden; there’s a university, cathedral, and lots of history attached to it.
Anne: Hi Anna!
The sitting area of our room…if you take a close look at the closet you will see some pillows on the upper right. We had a choice of soft or firm pillows; what luxury!
Anne: Cool hotel!
We stayed at the Radisson Blu next the the train station. It was lovely! We booked the Business Class room, which was very reasonable and wonderfully comfortable. If we ever come back to Sweden and want to see Stockholm, we will stay in Uppsala where you can get a nice hotel for half the price. The train takes only slightly longer to get to Stockholm than the subway we took from Skärholmen… and the city is much nicer, too! Oh yes, this IS a Nespresso machine!
Anne: What a luxurious touch! Good to know that staying there is so much cheaper AND nicer!
I had the “garden” plate with lentils, roasted cauliflower, yogurt, and beets. It was very tasty and I felt very virtuous afterward. It reminded me of something you might find on a Portland menu, but this had a slight sweetness that you wouldn’t find there. I think it came from some pickled onions.
Anne: Looks delish!
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, Picnic. This is the side that came with our entrees; note the ubiquitous potatoes.
