Chavu started in 2002 with a plan to travel around the world. We made it around the Pacific instead, which turned out to be plenty. The first version of the site was a blog on a platform that no longer exists, written in Internet cafes on the road.
The journal has changed platforms three times since. The writing has gotten quieter. The family has grown. The point, though, has stayed the same: write the trip down carefully enough that future-us can remember the shape of it.
What you’ll find here
- Trips collected from a single journey, posts in chronological order.
- Destinations grouped by country, with a short introduction to each.
- From the archive for the older posts, the ones from the first decade of the site. We’ve tidied them, lightly.
- A home page that rotates through whatever we’ve been writing most recently.
Voice
First-person, specific, conversational. No hidden gems, no must-sees, no aggregated advice. Just what actually happened, and what it looked like, and what we learned or forgot.
If the tone sounds self-deprecating, that’s us. If the pictures look slightly faded, that’s on purpose.
